General Membership Meeting Minutes August 11, 2010 Commander William Brown convened the meeting at 10:05 A.M. Roll Call of Officers: Commander Brown (present), First Vice Commander/Adjutant Lawrence Wade (present), Second Vice Commander Donald Cayton (excused), Finance Officer Gordon Grubb Jr. (present), Chaplain John Welsh III (present), Judge Advocate Lafayette Donaldson (excused), Sergeant-at-Arms John Rappel (present), Service Officer Raymond Jones (present), Historian Gilbert Isa (excused), and IT Manager David Butler (present). Commander Brown recognized Philippine Department Second Vice Commander Joseph Carsley and Past Post 123 Commander Jones. A Post Memorial (Post Everlasting) was performed for departed Post Members Charles R. Andre Jr. and Michael S. Wetzel. A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes from the July 14, 2010 General Membership Meeting subject to corrections. No discussion. The motion was voted upon and approved. Introduction of Guests and Prospective New Members: Mr. Tariq Bhatty was a guest at the meeting. There were no prospective new members present. Finance Report: Finance Officer Grubb read the American Legion Post 123 Financial Report for the month of July 2010. A motion was made and seconded to accept the Financial Report subject to audit. Discussion: A question was raised as to why the Post Canteen lost so much money during the month. Finance Officer Grubb explained that the lack of business and the purchases/expenses of the Canteen contributed to it. Suggestion: A Post House Committee be formed to see how the Canteen can operate more economically (i.e. pricing, tailor the menu, etc.). The motion was voted upon and approved. Membership Report: First Vice Commander/Adjutant Wade reported that Post 123 has a total of 226 members (22 Paid-up-for-Life (PUFL) and 204 Annual = 200 Renewal, 1 Reinstated, 2 Transfer-In, 1 New). With the 15 members that will be transmitted to Department today, the Post will have 31 of those annual members paid for Legion Year 2011, which began on 1 June 2010. Mr. Wade also said he has PUFL information (handout) for any member that is interested. Balloting on Applications: Legionnaire Richard S. Miller (Post 153 Department of Mississippi) wishes to transfer to Post 123. A motion was made and seconded to accept Legionnaire Miller into Post 123. No discussion. The motion was voted upon and approved. Sick Call, Relief, and Employment: The following members are on the Sick Call List = Allen Coates, Herbert Gage, Gilbert Isa, Mervin Jones, James Luther, Norman Macon, E. Ralph Milward, Harold Moore, Ernesto Sabado, David Stevens, and John Williams. Post Service Officer’s Report: See attached Report read by Service Officer Jones. Unfinished Business: Legionnaire Carsley read a letter and a Post Resolution (see attached) concerning the Post Life Membership Program. He made a motion which was seconded that the Resolution be approved. Discussion: Legionnaire Milton Day gave a brief financial history of the Program. The motion was voted upon and approved. New Business: The following individuals were selected for the Post Election Committee in accordance with Post By-Laws Article Fifteen – Post Elections Section 2: Gordon Grubb Jr., Richard Hodges, Raymond Jones, John Rappel, and Lawrence Wade. Legionnaire Carsley posed the question as to whether the Post has considered holding its elections earlier in the year thus putting them more in align with Department and National elections. The answer was no. Good of the American Legion: Mr. Bhatty briefed the General Membership on the co-ed American Legion Baseball Clinic for children ages 4 to 13 that Post 123 has agreed to sponsor. Legionnaire Carsley thanked Post 123 for its attendance at the Graveside Service for Al Mitchell at Clark Cemetery on Friday, July 30, 2010. Information: The location for Vietnam Veterans of America Sergeant Michael R. Hilbert U.S.M.C. Memorial Chapter 887 Philippines monthly social scheduled for Thursday, August 19 is undecided. A vote will be taken for the three locations being considered. The Beagles Organization will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the Dog House beginning at 11:00 A.M. Barbeque ribs meal will be served after the meeting (P300.00 per meal). American Legion Auxiliary Unit 123 will hold a Ballroom Dinner/Dance (live band) at the Post Home on Friday, August 13, 2010 beginning at 7:00 P.M. Meal = Ham Steak. Tickets are on sale for P300.00. The Jam Sessions are still going to be held at the Post Home. Announcements as to when will be forthcoming. Fifty/Fifty Raffle: Raymond Jones won P850.00 with the same amount going to the Post. Commander Brown closed the meeting at 11:14 A.M.
